any body here, who have the experience to watch night-sky with telescope?
if some body is there,
then can you able to see the planet Uranus,it is now very close to Jupiter in night-sky.
(not possible to see in necked eye,magnitude 30.90,celestial coordinate RA/DE(J2000):23h49m26.7s/-1degri 58'59.1" )
please tell me if some one successful to see the Uranus.
(it is just in the middle of the equinox point and Jupiter and very close to the ecliptic line )
@thanks scott:I am using 8" dia reflecting telescope with 60x.
is it possible to find it through the binocular
Uranus is actually not that hard to see. It's magnitude is about 5.7, which means you can actually see it (barely) with the naked eye from a dark site, and makes it about the same magnitude as the four Galilean satellites. (When you quoted the magnitude as 30.9, that's the "absolute magnitude"--how bright it would appear at a distance of 32.6 light years).
Right now it's about 3 1/2 degrees north and east of Jupiter, which really isn't that far apart in the sky (if you hold your hands straight out in front of you with your arms extended, and bring your thumbs together so that they're side by side and touching, that's about 3 degrees.)
It's almost aligned with the plane of the Galilean satellites, so that if you use a low power eyepiece, you can slew your telescope east along the line that the satellites make, and you'll see a couple of stars about as bright as the Galilean satellites. When you get to the second of those stars, center it, and Uranus should be in eyepiece
